Giuseppe Stampone (Cluses, France, 1974) lives and works between Teramo, Brussels and Rome. His practice weaves drawing, multimedia installation and participatory art, giving the sign back its role as a public, civic gesture.
He is the founder of the Solstizio Project, developed in collaboration with the European Union across several countries. Since 2002 he has shared with the artist Maria Crispal the Global Education project, where research, teaching and art become a shared space of thought.
Stampone teaches Painting Techniques at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna and collaborates with universities and research centres including IULM Milan, Federico II in Naples and the McLuhan Program in Culture and Technology in Toronto. His method is rooted in the network: listening, relations and participatory construction of the project.
His works have entered the Venice, Havana, Kochi-Muziris and Liverpool Biennials, the Seoul Triennial, MAXXI Rome, GAMeC Bergamo, MAMBO Bogotá and the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston. In 2020 he became the first Italian artist to win the Villa Romana residency in Florence, funded by Deutsche Bank.
At Hotel Cittadellarte, Stampone’s work unfolds as a diffuse exhibition that turns the stay into an encounter: drawings, alphabets and signs from his research move through the rooms as a living grammar, in dialogue with Fondazione Pistoletto.
My course and my artistic experimentations have allowed me to move from the two-dimensional character of classical art to the multidimensionality of connective and relational art, in order to cause a social-political action in the art world.
